Hartland Point

from £12.50

Hartland Point is a charcoal study capturing one of the most notoriously fierce landmarks on the North Devon and Cornwall border. This composition depicts the rugged, ancient rock structures that define this headland, standing as a permanent sentinel against the violent, crashing Atlantic waves that constantly batter it. I’ve used dense, structural layers of compressed charcoal to articulate the sheer, jagged geometry of the rocks, juxtaposed against the explosive sweeps of willow charcoal to depict the churning whitewater and sea spray. As always, it’s the dramatic interplay of light and deep shadow that captivates me and that I aim to capture in my work here.
