I began this piece quite entranced with the mother elephant’s eye and what I felt was the love and tenderness expressed in the apparent embrace of her trunk around her young calf. While I don’t often draw with graphite pencil alone - as I have here - when I do, I always seek to convey form with each mark. In this piece, I also sought to convey tenderness and the strength of the bond between the mother and her young.
