Watercolour seemed to me the most apt medium to capture the light, papery white bark of the slender silver birch trunks in this scene from the Alberta foothills of the Rocky mountains – a region I’ve been lucky enough to visit often, having spent much of my childhood in Canada. It’s also where most of my family lives, too. By far my largest watercolour yet, and one I hugely enjoyed painting. And no, I have never found out where that path leads.
