Looking back, nature has been a source of inspiration and fascination throughout my life. As a young teenager, I used to collect fungi, documenting and drawing my findings. I still have my journals from those days, and can clearly recall the excitement of coming upon a group of Fly Agarics - the highly hallucinogenic ‘fairy toadstools’ I’ve painted here. It’s still a delight to me to see them now, just as it was a joy to depict them on a mossy forest floor, here using Brusho inks to forever convey their vibrancy and depth of colour. As an aside, this piece won a small prize with the Artists’ Brush Boutique a couple of years ago. But I don’t really deserve the credit: it’s Mother Nature that originally picked up the paintbrush here.
